Common questions

What must a UK invoice include?

Your business name and address, the customer's name and address, a unique invoice number, the date, a description of the work, the amount owed and when it's due. If you're VAT registered, also your VAT number and the VAT charged.

Do I need to be VAT registered to send an invoice?

No. Only add VAT if you're registered for VAT. You must register once your turnover goes over the VAT threshold (£90,000 a year).

How long should I give customers to pay?

14 or 30 days is usual for trades. For business customers, if nothing was agreed, payment is due after 30 days and you can then claim late-payment interest.

Is my information stored?

No. Everything stays in your own browser on this device. Nothing is sent to VanBooks.
